I adore everything about this dress. It’s a little shirt dress that was a lot of fun to make. The colors are bright and cheery, just right for my happy little 8 year old girl.
I finally got to see her in it today. It was an easy dress but I had to steal a few minutes here & there all week to get it done.
I used New Look 6884. I was attracted to the bright yellow covered buttons. (Covered buttons have been on my learn to do list forever! I’m sort of hoping Rachel over at Once Upon A Sewing Machine will read this and make a tutorial…hint hint, wink)
I chose bright colored buttons for mine too. I think the finished dress is cuter than the pattern cover. To me, it looked like a 90s throwback (which is cool) but all sewed up it looks pretty hip and modern. I was going to add a ruffle but decided it was perfect without it.
The little bow is her design. I’m pretty sure it’s her favorite part.
The pattern also comes with some elastic waist shorts. That’s why it’s perfect for a little tomboy who hangs out with boy cousins every day.
See why the shorts are handy?
Bella ran for her Nikes when the boys came over. That’s my kid alright.
Well, the photo-shoot was about over at this point…there she goes!

Hi Amy, I’ve featured your Tomboy dress today… Threading Your Way Features
What an adorable and practical dress!!! The pleats and bow give it style, while the slim fit and shorts make it perfect for everyday play.
Covered buttons are SO easy. There’s usually instructions on the packet. If Rachel doesn’t do a tutorial, I’ll happily do one for you.

Oh My Gosh! This is totally cute! I know that sounds lame, but I can’t say enough about this little dress with the turquoise buttons, and matching shorts….and those boots are adorable. {Sigh}, I wish I had a little girl to sew things for.

Gorgeous dress! I can’t sew, but my mum enjoys it. Might have to ask her if she can make one for my daughter! Found you on Claire Justine’s fashion bloghop BTW.

Super cute! I love the fabric you used! I am now following you via Facebook, Twitter, & Pinterest!
I really like your version, I would probably not have jumped at the pattern image, but how you’ve sewn it up I totally dig it! Your fabric choice is great too, really suits her. So great with the boots!

Pretty Dress! Matches great with the cowgirl boots… I like how you added the shorts.
Adorable dress. I’d like one in my size!! Looks great with the boots.
How sweet. From cowgirl boots to sneakers! My daughter white cow girl boots for an entire year once:) Nice fabric and style! http://www.sewsweetvintage.com/2013/01/his-and-her-pillows.html
It turned out adorable. Love how it matches the cowboy boots. Like the buttons too – makes it “pop”. Looks like you all need some rain. We have rain all week and possible snow on Thursday…this weather here is crazy
