Big Girl Briefs from Serger Pepper | Tween Pattern Showcase

Big Girl Briefs from Serger Pepper | Tween Pattern Showcase

I’m showcasing the newest pattern from Serger Pepper today- Big Girl Briefs. The size range is huge, all the way from 3-14. That makes it a perfect underwear pattern for tweens!

It’s the first pattern I ever used to make underwear, although you saw a pair of men’s briefs on Fathers Day. I’ve been using it over and over; just waiting until the release date to show you.

I got addicted to making them! They use up smaller bits of knit fabric, and look great mixed and matched. There’s a cute detail in the front that uses strips of woven fabric. I like the way the crotch part is contructed; with no open seams or unfinished edges. This pattern also has nested sizing, which is a really neat feature. How great is it to only print the size you need?!

Big Girl Briefs | Serger Pepper

When I made my first pair of Big Girl Briefs, I was a little nervous. Undergarments were foreign territory! I used leftover scraps, because I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. But I managed, and each pair got easier.

Modified Big Girl Briefs (into adult sized undies!)

For this pair, I increased the waistband and leg measurements and made Big Mama Briefs. Ha!! It has full booty coverage, so there’s nothing hanging out…that’s why the size range will go way past the girls size 14.

Big Girl Briefs pattern with fold-over elastic, using L'Ouseau knit fabric

Lately, my undie sewing is looking more professional. This pair was the first time I tried fold-over elastic. (The pattern works great without the woven strips too!) Even though they aren’t quite perfect…they’re my favorite pair so far.

I now have lots of fold-over elastic and pico edge lingerie elastic in the stash. As soon as I get a chance, I’ll show you some of my latest undies. (They are cute, and I’ve gotten better at making them!)

Until then, you should visit Serger Pepper to see the Big Girl Briefs pattern release. While you’re there; stop by the shop and use promo code BIGGIRLDISCOUNT20 for a 20% discount. (Good until June 27th.)

This pattern has been added to the Tween PDF Pattern MasterList:) Hope you’re all having a great summer; sew on!

Hello. I'm Amy and I'm addicted to sewing. I borderline-hoard fabric, buttons, & patterns. Sometimes I wish I could pile my fabric up on the floor and just roll in it!

Fabulous! Making undies sounds like fun!

  2. Annie

Using up scraps to make undies…you are genius! I never thought of that. The animal one is so cute, if my daughter wears it, she will flip her skirt and proudly show them to everyone!

there are probably worse things than an undie making addiction!!! i think maybe it is more of a color/print addiction and the fun of mixing and matching prints and colors. you have some perfect small scale prints suited for undies!

I wonder if there is an addiction group to making undies :)…even if there is, don’t join, these are adorable. I can only imagine, in that craft stash of yours, there are some possibilities for really cute pairs to be made.

You are powering along in the underwear department, Amy. I’ve only ever made one pair of underpants and it was a dismal failure. Perhaps I should try again with Irene’s pattern.
