Welcome to Sew Fashionable: A weekly showcase of my favorite sewing and fashion posts across the blogosphere.

Child portrait

School’s out! This weekend was the end of school dance hosted by the FFA. My kid danced like nobody was watching, and I loved it. Could my child be any more beautiful? Be still my heart.

Not a lot on the sewing front; I have several WIPs that need binding or hemming. I dislike having multiple projects in progress; time to clear up the sewing queue!

Welcome to Sew Fashionable: A weekly showcase of my favorite sewing and fashion posts across the blogosphere.

Last week I played with vintage lace and made a new tank I’m not quite in love with. I’ll show you soon. (There will be complaining.)

I’ve got a Hey June* pattern inte queue, I’m just waiting for my order from My Fabric Designs.

This is our last week of school too! I’ll be teaching a weekly sewing class during the summer, so I’m working on a student supply list. Lots of things going on around here!

Welcome to Sew Fashionable: Showcasing interesting tidbits on sewing and fashion from across the blogosphere.

I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day weekend. I spent some time stash busting- I’ve been sewing all the underwear lately. I’m tired of wearing the same 3 shirts for Me Made May- I guess t-shirts are going into the sewing queue. Did you see my #MMMay dance video on Instagram? My daughter suggested that as an alternative to another terrible selfie. Don’t be jealous of my dance skills.

Tulip Shorts | Simplicity 1501

Finished project: Simplicity 1501. (I win.)

Simplicity 1501, 70's inspired tulip shorts

I don’t have a ton to say about this make, except that I love these shorts. There are several indie companies with similar patterns; like the Coachella Shorts from Striped Swallow Designs. Grosgrain Fabulous has a free pattern, the Pinwheel Shorts which fit up to a 40″ hip measurement.

Simplicity 1501 has a wider leg than the patterns mentioned above; it almost looks like a skirt when wearing it. With the right fabric and trim, these shorts could be vintage inspired lingerie. I started a gorgeous pair with my Amethyst Caravan silk from My Fabric Designs, but ran out before I could cut the waistband. You’ll see this pattern again, once I find a coordinating print.

70's inspired tulip shorts, Simplicity 1501

This women’s shorts pattern can be made with knit or woven fabric. The edges can be trimmed with lace or pom-poms, or use a narrow hem. For this pair I used jersey from Girl Charlee and elastic lace trim. I love the casual vibe when paired with a tee and sandals. This is a great project for instant gratification too- I finished in about an hour.

Happy Friday!

Interesting tidbits on sewing and fashion from across the blogosphere last week!

Sew Fashionable: Weekly Series at SewsNBows

I counted the handmade clothing items in my closet. Only 5 things to wear for Me Made May! I’ll slowly replace things as they wear out, but I don’t want to fill up my closet with excess. This is my first year paying attention to #MMMay, can you believe?

Let’s see what everyone’s been up to.
