Coco Jacket by Heidi & Finn-Tween Style!

Coco Jacket by Heidi & Finn-Tween Style!

Can I get some props, or high fives? Maybe you could just all do “the wave” for me?!! I made a jacket that my child wears. To school and everything! Introducing the Coco jacket by Heidi & Finn!

It comes in size 12 months to 5t, or 6 years to 12 years. I made size 12 for Bella, using a loosely woven wool for the jacket and unknown silk for the lining.

I was super nervous about a lined jacket. Sometimes you need to do some pretty intricate tailoring, but the Coco jacket is as easy as lining any dress pattern. It has patch pockets in front, and vented sleeves that are really cute.

Im gonna shamefully admit that I’ve never really worked with wool, or silk. But I guess the fabric gods were on my side! My thread matches so perfectly that the stitches completely disappear.

I was able to top stitch lining side up; without worrying about the outer garment. In my (less than modest) opinion, this jacket construction looks pro. (I could’ve given it another pressing before the photos, but I couldn’t get it off her!)

Fabric tip: If you are working with wool, you should pre-wash by hand, or at least heavily steam it. Most silks can be lightly pressed, but no steam! You should test a swatch before you begin. Ask me how I know.

Bella styled her Coco jacket with skinny jeans, a rocker style tee, and hot pink combat boots. I imagined this jacket worn “dressier”, but my kid showed me how versatile it is. I hate it that she’s cooler than me! When did that happen?!

You can buy the Coco jacket pattern at the Heidi & Finn etsy shop. This is a great pattern for tweens. I can see it in tweed or corduroy with leather elbow patches. What fabrics would you choose for this pattern?

Beautiful jacket and model. If it pleases a tween, it has to be good.

You are so good at “people” clothes! This is beautiful and uhm, why is Bella so cool? Pink lace combat boots to perfectly compliment the lining of this jacket? She’s not just cooler than you, she’s cooler than all of us and it’s all your fault! lol

Bahahaha, she is so cool, and it looks really great with her rocker style but I can totally see it more dressed up too. I love her boots! And her jacket! I want one in me sized! I think that I am going to attempt a winter jacket next year. It’s been so long since I’ve had a jacket that I loved, and I can’t find one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and I am almost confident enough in my sewing to give it a go!

The Coco jacket looks fantastic. You’ve done an amazing job. I’m so glad Bella enjoys wearing it. Job well done, totally agree that it’s very versatile, your daughter styles it well with jeans and a tee, but I could see it going with a pretty dress too.
    Fab work Amy :)
