It’s the Uptown Downtown Dress pattern from Sew Straight Patterns.

There are now more options than ever for this dress; including The Cool Cowl, The Magnificent Maxi, The Perfect Pocket, Lovely Long Sleeves and The Tank Modification. There are also instructions for a lace overlay, reversible dress, and bias finish.

I showed you my striped version last summer. I used the longer sleeve this time, and improvised a neck binding out of scraps.

Cute Neckline Pleat | SewsNBows

I cut this dress on a night when I was very sleep deprived and over caffeinated. There was a little wrinkle in the fabric when I cut the bodice front on fold; which made the neckband just a smidge too wide. I straightened out the grainline by adding this cute pleat in front.  It also took in the neckline which was too wide due to my cutting error. Crisis averted.

I’ve been making lots of sewing errors lately. We have about a week left until we move, and most of my fabric is packed. I kept down several pieces of knit yardage and almost everything else is in lonely storage tubs outside in the barn. (I worry that my fabric gets cold or feels unloved out there.)

Anyways, with all the busy work of moving and the enormous list of small but overwhelming tasks…this is the perfect pattern for me. It’s an easy to sew girls dress pattern, but drafted so perfectly that it will never feel sloppy. Even if I did just slop it together! Easy patterns are a must right now, I can’t think straight!

The Uptown/Downtown dress bodice is fitted perfectly with just the right amount of ease. That’s not often the case in knit garments and patterns. The simplicity of the design also makes it perfect canvas to show off your favorite fabrics.

I was thinking the pleat made the design more interesting than a plain t shirt dress and then you said it was a mistake! Sometimes it’s those mistakes that make a garment that much better. I love the fabric too! Sophie is adorable. And those boots! I’m dying for a pair.

You are a rock star for sewing through your move!!! This dress looks so cute on Soph! The first thing I noticed about this dress was the pleat at the neckline. It is my favorite detail along with the moccasins she is wearing!! Hope you can get some rest and the move goes smoothly!!!
