I’m happy to welcome Zoey back to the blog! Today, Zoey is modeling the Feathers N Dots Dress. Zoey previously modeled our John Deere Tractor Dress.

I made this dress using McCalls 6529.

It looks like a simple summer dress, but the back has some really cute details. The shirring is nice for easy on & off-which I love!

The selling point for me though, was the contrast back panel. What a perfect excuse for way too much embellishment.

I made a tube ruffle from the main fabric, then added a layer of ruffled seam binding, some ric rac trim, yellow bows, & rosettes. You know me, everything in excess.

I don’t know if using seam binding as an embellishment is a real thing- I think I just made that up. It’s cut on bias so it doesn’t fray….I think it turned out cute.

The pattern calls for a button on each strap, but I wanted one easy piece. I think kids should be able to dress themselves easily.

I hadn’t sewn the straps to the bodice front yet when these photos were taken- I had about 2 seconds to hand tack them. I made adjustments for a better fit before I machine stitched the straps.

Did anybody notice the yellow polka dot buttons?

Zoey has a birthday this month, & she told me she loves zebra print. I feel like I’ve done zebra to death- but little girls love it! See you guys on Workroom Wednesday!

I love that back detail…the contrast, the ruffles, the ric rac. Such a cute little dress (oh and buttons too). Thanks for sharing the darling pictures and your review! Lynaea @ EveryDayBloom.com

I adore the fabric you used here, as well as the embellishments. I don’t have a little girl to make this for, but I’m going to pin it for future reference . . . might be a great gift! Thanks so much for sharing it at Stress-Free Sunday.

Cute, comfy, easy to put on (very useful for when you’ve got a restless toddler like mine, hehe). It makes it the perfect summer dress, for my taste :) Love the green/yellow combination!

I love this! My daughters bday is at the end of summer and were having rainbow colors as part of the theme. I can totally see this whimsical dress with fun bright fabric and all those embellishments looking great on her big day. I think thats outside of my skill range though

Aubrey, you could totally do a skirt with all the funky embellishments. A circle skirt would be really full & twirly- or a ruffled skirt would make her look like a rainbow cupcake!

I love the colors in the dress, and I know how you feel about the zebra print. My girls like the leopard print and I get a bit tired of it. Got to change things up from time to time.
