Feathers N Dots Dress | McCalls 6529
I’m happy to welcome Zoey back to the blog! Today, Zoey is modeling the Feathers N Dots Dress. Zoey previously modeled our John Deere Tractor Dress.
I made this dress using McCalls 6529.
It looks like a simple summer dress, but the back has some really cute details. The shirring is nice for easy on & off-which I love!
The selling point for me though, was the contrast back panel. What a perfect excuse for way too much embellishment.
I made a tube ruffle from the main fabric, then added a layer of ruffled seam binding, some ric rac trim, yellow bows, & rosettes. You know me, everything in excess.
I don’t know if using seam binding as an embellishment is a real thing- I think I just made that up. It’s cut on bias so it doesn’t fray….I think it turned out cute.
The pattern calls for a button on each strap, but I wanted one easy piece. I think kids should be able to dress themselves easily.
I hadn’t sewn the straps to the bodice front yet when these photos were taken- I had about 2 seconds to hand tack them. I made adjustments for a better fit before I machine stitched the straps.
Did anybody notice the yellow polka dot buttons?
Zoey has a birthday this month, & she told me she loves zebra print. I feel like I’ve done zebra to death- but little girls love it! See you guys on Workroom Wednesday!
