Girls Handkerchief Hem Tank With Lace Back
Cute sewing project idea for girls: a knit Handkercheif hem tank with a lace back.
This handkerchief hem tank is a result of improvisational sewing. I read Angela’s post last week and my take away was to “let it flow”. So I made this project without much of a plan, and it was a nice break.
I used this stripey knit from Hancock’s (again.) You may recognize the print from a recent tank I made for myself, or maybe these undies. I had a couple odd shaped pieces left, and I really wanted to clean up the scrap bin a little.
That’s why the front is cut on fold…because get rid of all the fabric. The neckline and armcyes are trimmed with elastic lace again. I really like this quick, easy finish.
The back is elastic lace. It was a little tricky to hem.
In my mind, I pictured my niece wearing her handkerchief hem tank with leggings. When she paired it with shorts, I really wished I had made it a bit shorter or longer. But in the spirit of letting it flow: whatever. She’s cool and comfortable. This fabric has had the tendency to shrink up a bit despite pre-washing, so I may end up with more of a t-shirt length anyway. No worries:)
We took these photos for her moms birthday. I got some really pretty headshots and we had fun. Her brothers didn’t want photos taken, but you can see my nephew hiding in one of the pictures.
