My Custom Sewing Table

My Custom Sewing Table

If you didn’t catch phase 1 of my remodel, check it out. You have to see the before to appreciate the after! (Not that we’re anywhere near done…)

Here is hubby leveling & measuring…

He finished this in 2 hours!

Only my Edson knew that when I said this:

I really meant this:

I love how he curved the countertop. I won’t let him paint & add hardware until I have the wall cabinets and craft armoire I want…I’d rather do it all at once and be done.

This is a great, useable space! I’m so happy with it! The sewing desks I looked at were over $5000, but this whole unit was less than $300 to build. We got 20% off the cabinets since they were display units, another discount for a scuff, (it will be painted, who cares!) and they were already inexpensive cabinets.

We used plywood on top. I haven’t decided what to use for the countertop yet. I know I don’t want to spend a lot so granite is out. I’ve heard of bamboo & even concrete countertops, but I haven’t done any research yet. We own a tile business. It broke my heart to tell hubs tile won’t work. I need a completely smooth surface for cutting.

So, we will find an old tv cabinet to repurpose-I’ll keep fabric there; add some wall cabinets above the sewing desk, then add some extreme lighting & some sort of backdrop for photos on the other side. An old washer & dryer isn’t cute for photographing my projects. We haven’t quite figured out what to do about the water heater or how to make a photo backdrop. Some sort of curtain? Any ideas?

Oh, I finished that horrid corset for my Halloween costume today. (Almost.) i just need to finish the armholes with bias tape. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

Also, I’m thinking about doing a show next month. I’m trying to talk myself out of it.

Hello. I'm Amy and I'm addicted to sewing. I borderline-hoard fabric, buttons, & patterns. Sometimes I wish I could pile my fabric up on the floor and just roll in it!

Wow, he did a fabulous job on that desk! Very cool! I wish I had my own sewing desk, but right now I’m just using a small table that I also use for crafting. Thanks for sharing this at The CSI Project!
