My New Camera

My New Camera

A self-indulgent blather by Amy Mayen

This was one of the first photos taken with my new camera. I came home one day and Mr. SewsNBows got me the camera & all the equipment I’ve been coveting for so long. Ain’t he sweet? Gaw, I just want to squish him up and hang him from my rear view mirror cuz I love him so much!

(Paula Abdul said that once…anybody remember that?)

I’ve been messing with it a while now…getting more comfortable. There sure are a lot of buttons though. And nobody ever accused me of being the brightest light bulb in the box!

I thought having the fancy camera would make my pictures automatically awesome.

Don’t get me wrong- it does help! But, it turns out there’s actual skill required. So thanks for hangin’ in there with me.

So far this week I’ve made a boy doll outfit and a top for Sofie using the Scirocco pattern from Figgys. I need to get photos for you…

Plus I need to do a hardcore photo-shoot for the Sew Many Books series over at Nap Time Creations! Emily set up a Pinterest board and everything. That means its officially a thing. An important thing.

I’m really excited about my project…but super nervous because I want my photos to capture the spirit of the book I chose. It’s a special book. I just need my post to turn out as good as it is in my head.

Did ya’ll see my guest post over at Crafty Meggy’s the other day? If you hoard patterns, you better go make sure you have all my top picks for free patterns on the web.

Oh, one last thing before I go…then I promise this post will be over! I made jam all day yesterday, and canned tomatoes & okra in the pressure cooker. I feel a little accomplished for that. Generally, I just avoid the kitchen and food related tasks. So, yeah…a little proud!

What’ve you been up to this week?

Hello. I'm Amy and I'm addicted to sewing. I borderline-hoard fabric, buttons, & patterns. Sometimes I wish I could pile my fabric up on the floor and just roll in it!

I avoid the kitchen at all costs!!!!!!!!!! I haven’t started my outfit for Sew Many Books yet, but it’s all planned… well, not as far as the photo shoot. I’ll have to make it early enough to get my daughter to help with that. You look fabulous in the first photo.

My goodness girl, sounds like you have been busy! I am so pleased things are going so well for you. and you look so happy in those photos though, playing with your new gadgets :D I have found that crafting and sewing has allowed me to resort back to being a big kid and get completely over excited over new, sewing related toys!

Wow, congrats! Yes, unfortunately these cameras dont automatically come with skill ;) It took me some time to get more comfortable using it, but since my dad’s a professional photographer I had someone to help me with that. Still, it wasn’t too easy. You be patient, you’ll learn more and more tricks over time :)

I so need a new camera. The Boy is a bit of a film snob, so he doesn’t want to shell out big bucks on a digital SLR even though it would be for me! Although I know if I got one he would be using it all the time…our little point and shoot is almost 10 years old and has definitely seen better days.

Go you on the jam and canning! I used to always make peach jam with my mom with peaches from our trees. Totally spoiled me on peaches and peach jam, nothing can compare! The Boy wants to learn how to do canning and pickling with all the bounty he is expecting from our garden this year, but we’ll see how much we actually get…

Amy, you’re so pretty!!! Your pictures are better and better, and you’re way ahead of me if you’ve read your manual. What kind of jam did you make? Feel free to FedEx me Strawberry…

I LOVE getting a new camera!! What brand? And it does take some skill, but you seem to be doing great. Do you have photoshop? or Photoshop Elements? You should get a trial version from their website if you don’t. Using a program will help spice up your pictures!! :) Good luck learning the ropes and have FUN!! :)
