This is the Ojai Wrap pattern from Justine Marie Patterns. It’s a short sleeved shawl collar cardigan with a little bit of a high low hem. There’s an optional button tab for the sleeve, too.
Justine writes at one of my favorite blogs, Sew Country Chick. It was among the first sewing blogs I ever read. I like it because there are so many different things; like pattern drafting, women’s wear, costuming…I never get bored.
I could’ve made a size down, but I tend to wear cardigans with a slouchy fit and normally buy a size bigger. I like for kids to climb up in my lap, and then I can wrap my cardigan around them like a blanket.
I used a loose sweater knit in a light cream color. It’s soft and drapey…I’m a real sucker for texture. I love this fabric!
This is more of a spring cardigan because the fabric isn’t doing much to keep me warm. I made it to pair with tanks and dresses. I have a lot of layers on so I may add a photo to this post later; without the bulky clothes. I’m too proud to bare my pasty white legs in public; and too self indulgent to suffer being cold.
Below is a closeup of the fabric (so pretty) and the sequin trim I used to stabilize the shoulders. It’s a fun detail, and it really helps the super stretchy sweater knits to keep their shape. I wrote a tutorial here: How To Sew Sequin Trim.
I made several other women’s clothing projects, with every intention of showing you this week. I’m barely squeaking this post in…we’ll see if I can get more photos this week. I’m excited to read about and see what everyone else makes though!
I like sewing things for me now; which was not the case one year ago. The online sewing community really motivated me to keep going. I wear something I made at least a couple times a week, and that feels nice. So hurray for Selfish Sewing Week!
