Welcome to Sew Fashionable: A weekly showcase of my favorite sewing and fashion posts across the blogosphere.

OTT hair bow | MayenDesigns on Etsy

There are a few new bows in the shop! This month I’ve been making custom football and cheer bows for our local school and Little League fans. They’re getting claimed faster than I can take pictures, but I’ll try to get some up on Instagram soon.

One of my favorite hair bow conneisuers said, “omg these hair bows are like Pokemon- gotta catch em’ all!” It cracked me up. Making bows is fun, and I earn a little money for extra things for my daughter. I love showing them off here!

I have another pair of shorts to show you soon. It’s still shorts weather here, but it’s time to start thinking about sewing for fall. I’m planning some bras for me and t-shirts for my kid.

Let’s see what everyone has been up to.

Yoga Waist Pleated Shorts For Lounging

I accidentally made some yoga waist pleated shorts. Sometimes the best sewing projects are unplanned and improvised.

Yoga Waist Pleated Shorts

I had an odd half yard left from my floral tank dress, and it was exactly the shape of a shorts block. It was begging to become a pair of lounge shorts.

Since lounging is my sport, I always try to be prepared with appropriate gear.

I made a very narrow rolled hem, and love how it looks like a lettuce edge. This was another happy accident, yay:)

The “waist” on my fabric remnant wasn’t defined; so rather than reshaping it or using gathers, I opted for pleats. The finished shorts almost look like culottes or a skirt.

Yoga Waist Pleated Shorts

I gotta mention though: There are some drag lines pointing to my business. I think I should’ve moved the pleats away from the center front seam, and maybe scooped out the crotch curve a bit. The fabric is fluid enough that it’s not noticeable to me.

I used the selvedge to eek out a yoga waistband. Here’s my tutorial if you want to see the steps: How To Make a Knit Waistband

Writing this post is easing myself back into blogging. I had such a busy, fun summer that there wasn’t much time leftover for my blog. I’ve missed it though!

My daughter finally went back to school this week and (I’m slightly ashamed to admit) I’m enjoying a little quiet time to sew and catch up on my blog reading.

I have to pick up a little slack though, because I fell behind on household things and farm chores while the kids were out. So…easing my way back into writing. I’ll be back Monday with my Sew Fashionable series, and hopefully have some fun makes to show you soon.

Until next time!

Sew Fashionable 08/30/16

Welcome to Sew Fashionable: A weekly showcase of my favorite sewing and fashion posts across the blogosphere.

Sew Fashionable is late this week- I’ve been pretty MIA on the blog this whole month too! It’s football season and the last week of summer vacation. I have tons of hair bow orders. There’s so much ribbon strewn about that I can’t find my sewing machine!

Back To School Meme

My daughter can’t wait for school. This has been an action packed, but very long summer. Most schools have been back in school for weeks. Stick a fork in us, we’re done:)

Let’s see what everyone has been up to.
