Sailor Shorts & Ruffled Halter

Sailor Shorts & Ruffled Halter

I had to have this shorts pattern when I saw it. I knew it would be perfect for a sailor shorts & ruffled halter outfit I’ve been envisioning. My niece has a pageant coming up. Her casual-wear is patriotic themed. I imagine something vintagey and beachy. Kind of like a 1940’s swimsuit. But sailor-y.

I made this outfit as a wearable muslin because I’m scared to cut into my fancy fabric on an indie pattern company I’ve never used before. That’s why you see cheetah and polka dots instead of anything remotely sailor-y.

Anybody else having this problem? I’ve had diaper fit issues with a few different PDFs lately. Maybe Sof just has a big butt. Even in big girl undies, half her butt hangs out when she bends over. I almost died laughing during this photo shoot; and kept dropping stuff for her to pick up. Poor little girl didn’t quite know what was so funny!

I love the pattern though, and it’s a totally easy fix. I’ve already adjusted the fit, and made second muslin. Alas, these shorts are not wearable. Sad face.

She’s like,”leave my freakin’ shorts alone!”

The top is a vintage pattern that came in one size-2T. You can see it’s a little wide, I’ve adjusted the fit on my next muslin as well.

I name all my outfits I make…because I’m a total whack job.

The adjusted version is called the Ice Cream Soirée. It’s so much better, really!

As much as I love Sofie’s sweet little tummy, I don’t think so much of it needs to hang out. So the new improved version is graded for a diaper, higher waisted, and adorable.

I can’t wait to show you this outfit all “fixed”!

There is nothing wrong with naming your outfits! Stitches always does, and I would except I just hate naming things and can’t ever come up with anything. That is super cute and I can’t wait to see your new and improved version!

Adorable~! Thanks for linking up. I used to sew clothes with a lady who made cloth diapers. They were unique patterns that had a HUGE bum to them.

ADORABLE. I love that you name all of your outfits. I find that endearing. And, I had to giggle that you were purposely dropping things for your adorable niece to pick up for you. How funny! Glad you are pattern savvy enough to adjust for diaper fit. You rock!

It’s disappointing when patterns don’t fit and you’ve spent money on them. Just as well you did the practise. The shorts really are very cute, or will be when they fit properly.

Can’t wait to see your new and improved outfit!! This is so cute and will be even better when you fix the sizing! The bottoms may be falling but the top seems to fit well; Sophie could wear a little tank to cover her little tummy. Hope you have a great weekend!! We are melting in the heat here :)
