Scrappy Ribbon Hair Bow Tutorial | Easy Easter Craft!

Today I’m publishing my Scrappy Ribbon Hair Bow Tutorial here at SewsNBows. This post debuted at Domestic Bliss Squared earlier this year. Jessica & Hillary have lots of fun ideas for hair accessories; like cupcake headbands and sparkly bow headbands. With Easter around the corner, some hair pretties might be in order! So without further ado….

This is a very simple method that doesn’t require the ability to actually fold a bow. It only takes a few minutes, so let’s make your scrappy ribbon bow!

Start with ribbons. Use ribbons of varying widths, and cut them in descending lengths. I’ve cut some at a slant, and forked others. Seal the ends with a lighter so they don’t fray.

Arrange your bows in a way that you think is cute. Use kind of an “X” formation, and spread the ribbons out so you can see them all.

Next, you’ll pinch and accordion fold the center of your bow.

Use a needle and thread to secure your scrappy Valentine bow. This part will be covered, so don’t worry about the thread color.

Slip your alligator clip through the thread on back.

Tie a loose knot in a coordinating piece of 5/8″ ribbon.

Glue your knot to the center of your bow.

Making sure the ends of your knot are pretty-side up; wrap them around the bow and secure with glue in back. Use a tiny dot of glue to attach the alligator clip “head” to the ribbon.

These are super cute and look easy. This is my first time making hair bows of any kind and I was wondering if you could tell me what width ribbons you used and what is the length of the longest piece? Also, what size hair clips do you suggest using? Thanks!!

Adorable. Thank goodness it doesn’t require a sewing machine :). I might actually be able to make this.

A bow that doesn’t involve really tying a bow! This is my kind of project. Very cute!

I wonder if I could substitute sewing for the glueing bits. I seriously am useless at glueing and make a total mess… LOL!!! Your scrappy hair bow looks SO effective, Amy!!!
