Skipper Dress

Skipper Dress

By Amy Mayen

This is the dress I made from the Skipper Top pattern! Did you see the Skipper Tops I made? You can get your Skipper pattern at Sew Much Ado.

I’ve been sewing my knit fabric stash- but I’m barely putting a dent in it. I bought a bunch of soft, stretchy knits last time I went to the garment district in Dallas. I bought some quality stuff, some of it for only a couple bucks per yard. I’m getting excited, since I’ll be going back in the end of September!

I’ve been sewing from stash only for 2 months, trying to make space for the truckload I want to bring back. Dallas is fun, because its a secondary market. That means the warehouses are buying up close outs and bankrupties, and I’m paying less than half what I would normally spend. Plus, I can get out of print fabrics from a couple seasons ago!

I love seeing the kids wearing my stuff…but I tend to migrate more towards the boutique style outfits. My goal is to sew more wearable clothing…that means more knits and less guinea pig dresses. (Although, the guinea pig dress was worn quite a bit this summer!)

Here’s what’s in my sewing queue:

-holiday sewing projects for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
-matching girl doll birthday dresses for 4 girls (yikes, due end of September)
-pajamas, because my daughters jamma drawer is on orphan status
– a doll sized quilt

Because I’m nosy, I’d love to know what your sewing/crafting plans are. How far ahead do you plan? Are you as irritated as I am that fall is sneaking up on us?!

I’ve been wanting to make the Skipper top a dress and was wondering how it would turn out – so cute and definitely wearable.

    Very cute!

Right now I am getting back into American Girl Doll clothes & things because of my daughter’s new doll. I much prefer to create my own stuff than use a pattern. I love the creativity required to create it all myself. I also need to sew the patches on my daughter’s GS uniform.

That is a great everyday dress! I know what you are saying, I want to make more wearable clothes too, but then I always think “I can buy plain T-shirt, I want dresses and more ruffles!” And it is hard to find pretty knit print like that! I usually have few sewing projects in my head, and then unexpected projects always pops in between. Currently working/thinking on more princess dresses, very un-wearable! :D But hopefully one of them can also be the Halloween costume.

That dress looks so comfy! And those are always the most worn too, so I’m sure your girl will get a ton of wear out of it.
My list is always seemingly endless haha. First up is a flip for frances Suzanne’s series this week and then it’s on to fall staples and of course the holidays. :)

What gorgeous knit fabric, Amy and a great looking and totally practical dress!!! It’s not easy to buy good quality knit fabric, let alone with lovely prints. You’ll be counting down the days till the Dallas trip!!! I plan a couple of months ahead, and then I change the plan all the time, as new projects I’d like to tackle come to light.
