Just Keep Swimming: Summer Swimwear Tour 2016

Welcome to my stop on the Summer Swimwear Tour! This tour showcases patterns from Jess of Gracious Threads, Ajaire from Call Ajaire, and Saskia of The Wolf and the Tree. Sponsoring the tour is Rachel from Imagine Gnats, who generously provided fabric for the bloggers on tour.

Just Keep Swimming rashguard pattern from The Wold and the Tree

I sewed the Just Keep Swimming rashguard and shorties pattern. The rashguard includes 3 sleeve lengths or sleeveless options, a solid or color blocked variation, and 3 bodice lengths. The bottoms include high waisted or regular briefs, and high waisted or regular shorts in 3 lengths. That’s over 160 combinations!

I made 2 pairs of the short-length shorts to match Bella’s cropped rashguard. I love mix and match sets; I have at least 2 swimsuits in every load of laundry.

These are great for cheer and gymnastics too. I plan to make solid black pairs for the girls to wear under their cheerleading uniforms next month. They have the perfect length and butt coverage for spanky pants.

It’s worth a mention that the colorblocking option is perfect for older girls who may need fit adjustments up top. Princess seams practically do the job for you. This rashguard is sewn with no adjustments (and fits great) for reference. Rest assured it will be cake to add some more room later if needed.

Today is the last day to take advantage of the great deals offered by the Summer Swimwear Tour hostesses. Designs by Call Ajaire is offering 20% off all patterns in her Etsy shop using the code SWIMTOUR, Gracious Threads is offering 15% off the purchase of 3 or more patterns in her shop (no coupon needed), and The Wolf and the Tree is offering 15% off patterns using the code SWIMTOUR. Girls Luna Loungewear + My Fabric Designs

Check out the girls version of the Luna Loungewear pattern by Love Notions. Bella likes her set as much as I like mine!

Luna Loungewear pattern for girls, by Love Notions

This is the size 14 tester version, and the straps have now been moved in slightly for a perfect fit. I know the fit is perfect because this girl ^ had me sew a couple more tanks for school. They’re in the laundry basket every time I try to get photos.

The similar RTW tank tops she wears are $10 when I catch them on sale, eek. It’s the built in shelf bra feature that she loves. I’m infinitely relieved I have a new go-to pattern, because her tanks are in heavy rotation.

Luna Loungewear, Love Notions Patterns

I’m an affiliate for Love Notions Patterns. When I showed you my women’s Luna Loungewear set, several of you bought the pattern from my link in the post. I received a commission for those purchases, and I wanted to say thank you. You got a great pattern, and helped me maintain this blog.

I’ll link this pattern at the bottom of the post, in case you want to buy it. (I think you do.)

I used cotton slinky knit from My Fabric Designs. The cotton slinky knit is lighter than their interlock, and has 6% spandex for a lot more stretch. It’s perfect for Luna Loungewear. I love that I can shop prints or design my own fabric; then choose between 26 different types of fabric. If you shop there, I highly recommend getting a swatch book. It makes planning a sewing project so easy.

Since I told you how great this pattern is in a previous post, I really have to show off my coverstitch work. I haven’t tried all the things my machine can do yet, but I’m getting the hang of the basics. It was tricky to cleanly start and stop the stitch work on the faux fly. (I had to rip it out once.)

Luna Loungewear for tweens! Cotton slinky knit from My Fabric Designs

As for the construction, I prefer the self binding straps option on this tank over the fold over elastic I used for mine. It’s nice and clean, wears well, and was easier than I thought.

I used a piece of crochet lace for the drawstring until I find some cording. I attached the two lace ends to a piece of skinny elastic in back. The elastic doesn’t show, but it helps relieve some stress on my button holes for now. The lace looks cute, but it’s not ideal.

The buttonholes use a piece of interfacing to stabilize the button hole, and it’s a great design feature. A fun color drawstring with matching coverstitching is Bella’s latest request.

Girls Handkerchief Hem Tank With Lace Back

Cute sewing project idea for girls: a knit Handkercheif hem tank with a lace back.

Girls Handkerchief Hem Tank With Lace Back

This handkerchief hem tank is a result of improvisational sewing. I read Angela’s post last week and my take away was to “let it flow”. So I made this project without much of a plan, and it was a nice break.

I used this stripey knit from Hancock’s (again.) You may recognize the print from a recent tank I made for myself, or maybe these undies. I had a couple odd shaped pieces left, and I really wanted to clean up the scrap bin a little.

Girls Striped Tee with Elastic Lace Neckline Finishing

That’s why the front is cut on fold…because get rid of all the fabric. The neckline and armcyes are trimmed with elastic lace again. I really like this quick, easy finish.

Girls Handkerchief Hem Tank With Lace Back

The back is elastic lace. It was a little tricky to hem.

In my mind, I pictured my niece wearing her handkerchief hem tank with leggings. When she paired it with shorts, I really wished I had made it a bit shorter or longer. But in the spirit of letting it flow: whatever. She’s cool and comfortable. This fabric has had the tendency to shrink up a bit despite pre-washing, so I may end up with more of a t-shirt length anyway. No worries:)

We took these photos for her moms birthday. I got some really pretty headshots and we had fun. Her brothers didn’t want photos taken, but you can see my nephew hiding in one of the pictures.
