Tea Time Dress/ New Look 6884

Tea Time Dress/ New Look 6884

by Amy Mayen

Does this dress look familiar? It’s New Look 6884, the same pattern I used for Bella’s Tomboy Dress.

Bella wore her Tomboy Dress out shopping with me this weekend. A couple of stylish ladies stopped her and asked where she got her dress. She told them “Mommy made it!”

They asked her to turn, spin, fussed over the little bow, and declared the buttons were “to die for”. So Bella wanted another one. I happily obliged!

I call it the Tea Time Dress because it looks so dainty and feminine. But my kid won’t be sipping tea in it. She beats boys on the monkey bars.

I used another vintage fabric, with another delicate floral print. I don’t think the small prints photograph well, but I love the way they look in real life.

I used more vintage buttons. These buttons make my heart flutter.

I didn’t have quite enough fabric to complete the bottom ruffle. I didn’t use a bottom ruffle on the previous dress, so I knew the length would be fine. I added lace at the bottom.

There are matching shorts again. I’ll probably make these for all her dresses.

Because, well…she’s a wild monkey.

She isn’t a fan of standing still for photo-shoots either.

But at least you can tell this dress “plays” well. I think it will survive a while!

Your daughter and dress are just adorable! I love the idea of you making shorts to match, what a great Mom. Brings back a lot of memories seeing her jump around and hanging on those monkey bars. I used to have one of those, now she is in karate, horse jumping, track, and orchestra. Hang on to those precious moments! You got some really nice shots of her playing.

I love the dress, it looks perfect for playing. My girl always wants to wear fancy tea party dresses but she is so rough and tumble, Grandma (the one who buys said dresses) would definitely not approve…

It’s been a long time since I sewed for my little girl–not so little anymore! I was going to sew her a skirt yesterday and I cut into the fabric and realized that when I sewed the skirt together the print would be upside down. The dress is darling and I love the ruffle!

The shorts are so smart. I’m jealous of your button stash! I agree about tiny prints they are cuter in person than picture most of the time.

    Very cute dress!
